How do I clean out my fire pit?

When your wood is burned through completely, and your fire pit is cool, remove the ash pan from under your base plate and dump it.

Why is my base plate removable?

Accepted Answer

As your wood burns on the base plate, the ashes will fall to the ash pan below. When it's done burning and completely cooled, you won't have to tip your fire pit over to get rid of ashes. A simple lift of the base plate and removal of the ash pan means you can easily clean your fire pit.

Are the fire pits stationary, or can they be moved?

Can I touch my fire pit?

Accepted Answer

Fire Pits should not be touched while burning. Once the flames have died out, you should wait at least an hour before touching it with bare hands.

How much wood does my fire pit take?

Accepted Answer

Generally, you should start with the recommended 3-4 logs to start and add more as needed. It's essential that your logs are close to the fire pits' inner walls for the most efficient burn. Read up  here  on how to prepare your wood.

Will my fire pit be hot when in use?

Accepted Answer

YES! Do not touch any part of the fire pit with bare hands when in use. Children should always be under parental supervision when around the fire pit. Your fire pit should always be treated as an open flame.

Can I burn it on a wood deck?

Accepted Answer

Solo Stove Fire Pits can safely be used on a wood deck, but require your attention and action. Use on wood or composite decking can lead to charring or ignition if the fire pit is not adequately elevated, insulated, or misused. You should use Stand when using on a wood deck. Read up on what surfaces need Stand  here . 
 Even when using Stand, wood and composite decking materials differ significantly in quality and treatment, and have varying heat resistance ratings. You should check with your manufacturer or builder to ensure your surfaces can handle high temperatures, or further elevate or insulate your fire pit to avoid potential damage. 
 Never leave your fire pit unattended on a combustible surface when hot - even while cooling down. Hot ashes can reignite and escape onto the surface. 
 Solo Stove Shield is also recommended to help prevent large embers from escaping the pit during a burn and Solo Stove Lid when done burning to keep ashes locked in.

Is there a specific wood I should use when cooking?

We recommend kiln-dried hardwoods like Oak, Hickory, Maple, and Pecan. Some wood is not safe for cooking, including softwood, plywood, construction scraps, painted or stained lumber, or any composite logs containing accelerants.

Can I cook when the fire is burning?

Accepted Answer

The fire pit cooking system works best with a shallow bed of embers in your fire pit’s burn chamber. Flames shouldn’t be higher than a few inches while cooking with the Cast Iron Grill.

Question 10

Do I need to season the Cast Iron Cooktop before I use it - similar to a cast iron skillet?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Cast Iron Cooktop should be treated just like the cast iron you’re familiar with. The non-stick quality will fully develop after 8-10 seasonings. Allowing an extra 30 minutes before cooking will be plenty of time to season your Cast Iron Cooktop.

How do I clean the Cast Iron Cooktop?

Grease and crumbs can be wiped away while the iron is hot, and you can do this safely with rags gripped by cooking tongs. Remove your Grill from Hub using heat-resistant gloves and rinse with just hot water. The most stubborn residue can be removed with our Cast Iron Scrubber and hot water. Follow all cleansing with thorough drying. Never let the cast iron soak or be submerged in water for any amount of time. Apply a light coat of seasoning oil to clean and dry cast iron before storing. Season your Cast Iron Grill well and often to keep it non-stick.

Will grease from cooking impact the performance of my fire pit?

Accepted Answer

Some grease will not impact the performance of your fire pit and will burn off with each use.

Question 13

Do I need the Hub in order to use the cooktops?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Hub is an essential part of your fire pit cooking system. Cast Iron Grill should never be placed over your fire pit without Hub.
