How to Care for the Steelfire™ 30 Stainless Griddle
Jul 3, 2025Just unboxed your Steelfire 30 Stainless Griddle? Let’s make sure it stays looking as hot as it cooks. With just a few simple steps, you can keep it clean, shiny, and ready for your next backyard feast. Whether it’s your first griddle or you’re making an upgrade, this guide will show you how to clean and maintain your propane griddle for lasting performance.
How to Season the Steelfire Griddle
Unlike traditional cast iron, the Steelfire’s 3-ply clad stainless steel surface doesn’t require seasoning for protection. However, a light seasoning layer can help develop patina over time for enhanced cooking performance. Here’s how we recommend seasoning your griddle.
1. Preheat the griddle for 5 –7 minutes.
2. Apply a thin coat of high-smoke point oil (like avocado or canola oil).
3. Spread the oil across the surface with a paper towel or cloth using tongs.
4. Let the oil bake into the surface for 10 –15 minutes.
5. Turn off the burners and let it cool.
How Often Should I Season the Steelfire Griddle?
While not mandatory, you can season it lightly every few cooks to develop a golden patina and improve its natural low-stick quality.
What is Patina?
Patina is a natural discoloration that forms with heat and oil over time. It’s a sign your griddle is developing character. Learn more about your patina here.

• Stainless steel cleaner (optional)
How to Prepare Your Outdoor Griddle Before Cooking
Step 1: Clean the griddle surface
Use a damp cloth to wipe down your stainless-steel griddle and remove any dust, debris, or residue.
Step 2: Preheat the griddle
Turn on your outdoor griddle and allow it to preheat for 7–10 minutes. Preheating ensures even heat distribution across the entire cooking surface and helps avoid hot or cold spots.
Step 3: Apply cooking oil
Before adding food, apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the surface. This improves browning, reduces sticking, and enhances your overall cooking results.
How to Clean Your Outdoor Griddle
Cleaning your stainless-steel griddle after each use keeps it in top condition for the next meal:
Step 1: Scrape while still warm
Use your griddle scraper to push food debris and grease into the grease trap while the surface is still warm.
Step 2: Let the griddle cool completely
Allow the surface to fully cool before continuing.
Step 3: Wipe with mild soap and water
Use a damp cloth with mild soap to gently clean the cooking surface.
Step 4: Dry thoroughly
Finish by wiping the surface dry with a clean towel to prevent water spots or streaks.
Before Storing Your Outdoor Griddle
Before storing your stainless-steel outdoor griddle, take these simple steps to keep it protected:
Step 1: Ensure the griddle is completely cool
Always allow the entire unit to fully cool before cleaning or covering.
Step 2: Empty the grease trap
Remove the grease trap and safely discard any collected grease or residue.
Step 3: Wipe down all surfaces
Clean the cooktop and exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild soap to remove any remaining food particles or grease.
Step 4: Restore shine with stainless steel polish
Apply a food-safe stainless-steel polish to maintain the surface’s appearance and help protect against future buildup.
Step 5: Cover for protection
Once fully dry, cover your griddle with our Shelter™ Cover or any outdoor griddle cover to shield it from weather, moisture, and outdoor debris while not in use.
How to Fuel the Steelfire™ Griddle
Use a standard 20-lb liquid propane tank with a QCC-1 connection. Always inspect the regulator and hose for wear before connecting. To maximize efficiency, keep burners clean and avoid overfilling the tank.
